Free Christmas Letter Printables for kids
🎵 He’s making a list, checking it twice…🎵
Someone’s coming to town! Covid or not!
Folks, it’s been a YEAR. 2020 came out of nowhere and not just smacked us in the face, but flattened us, stomped on us, and then kicked us when we were down. Am I right?
We are so ready for Christmas this year. We will be spending it with just our own little family and that’s okay! One of the things I think we can all be grateful for is the ability to call and/or video call any of our relatives at any time. This makes this pandemic so different than others in history. I have spoken to several elderly who have very clear memories of the polio pandemic and their insight and emotions from that time are still very vivid.
One thing we can also do at this time of the year is write and send Christmas letters and cards.
We all still LOVE getting something in the mail that is sincere and done with love. Getting a letter these days seems so much more precious because of one thing I believe… Time. It takes time to sit down and write, thinking of the person we are writing to and pouring our thoughts out on paper with a pen. In this convenient world of Facetime and emails, I know someone would greatly appreciate getting something in the mail that is written by hand! So I’ve created some free Christmas letter printables for your kids!
But what to write? And who likes printables?
Kids these days may find it challenging to sit down and actually write a letter. (I even find this difficult!) Sure they are learning nouns and verbs and adjectives at school, but putting all those things together with personal stories and sentiments might seem a bit daunting. I tackled this earlier this year with my post on “How to write an amazing letter”. Check it out here. In that post, I think the best piece of advice was that it’s okay to write how you talk! We’re talking about informal letters to relatives here. They love to get the feel of your personality through the words and phrases you use.
Little kids can write to Santa too!
There are many ways you can write to Santa! Here in Canada, kids can even write and send their letters directly to the North Pole! AND Santa will write BACK! Check out the program done through Canada Post. We’ve done this in the past and it is so amazing. When they get their letter back, their eyes light up in such a wonderful way!
Usually, the requirement for Santa giving gifts instead of a lump of coal is if you’ve been nice throughout the year. Now when I was researching the hundreds of printables for “Dear Santa” letters, and there are many, I noticed there was something missing. So I’ve created a free printable just for kids that includes a little kindness. Kids need to remember some kind things they did in the past year. Because what I noticed missing was the proof. So many of the letters and printables just contained a list of toys and items that they wanted. There was no actual thought put into the part of being on the “nice” list.
Also, in this printable, kids will also write some things that they wish for their family in the coming year. I believe you will love reading some of the things written in this area.

Now, for the older kids OR letters to loved ones and grandparents. I’ve got you!
Our grandparents love getting little personal updates written from the kids with our Christmas cards each year. In fact, it’s quite often that when we go to visit I’ll see their letters still on display somewhere in the house. I can’t help but think these letters will be appreciated 100 times what they usually are this year.
Now, I have a 7-year-old and an 11-year-old so writing can be challenging in different ways. My 7-year-old is now writing sentences that focus on punctuation and capitals at the beginning of the sentences. Whereas, my 11-year-old is fully into writing short stories and focussing on plot, descriptive words and antagonists. What I wanted to do this year is give them something that will be easy for them both to do. So, here is my free printable, the “My 3 Things Letter for 2020”!
Feel free to download this printable and use it to help your kids write about how their 2020 went. They will be encouraged to think about how Covid affected them, what they did during the year, and some insight into their personality at the moment.
Please remember that I provide some of my printables for free to help you, so they are not for resale purposes. If you wish to share it, go ahead but please keep my copyright on the printable. Thank you!
